A dour game ended with the result that neither side wanted but the point was probably more precious to Church than their visitors.

Church started well but it was Downton who had the first effort on goal after five minutes with an effort over the bar when well placed. Play was scrappy with both sides playing too many long balls and the only real effort on goal in the first 40 minutes was a Mark Smith free kick that was straight at the keeper. However the last 5 minutes of the half saw Smith hit the bar with a 20 yard shot and the visitors taking the lead on 44 minutes with a fine solo effort from their number 10. Downton had a further chance to increase their lead before the half time whistle but this was wasted.

The second half was a case of Church pushing forward with the visitors relying on attacking on the break and it looked for long periods that Church would not score but the equaliser arrived on 64 minutes when the returning hard working Dan Saul headed in a Smith free kick. With the evergreen Gareth Barnes winning a lot of headers the home side looked for the winner but the away side were always dangerous on the break and the best chance fell to youngster Sam Carter who delayed his shot which was eventually blocked.

There now follows an interesting week for Church with one home game and two away games against teams in the top ten.
