Christchurch Under 9’s Sunday 14th September 2014

CHRISTCHURCH v HIGHCLIFFE HAWKS

The Team’s first home match in the New Forest League was played under the midday heat of a warm September’s day.

All of the boys arrived early to cheer on the BYFL team, albeit some distance from the pitch and with the distraction of a scratch match between them. Congratulations to their team mates on a really hard fought game.

When it was our turn to start, Christchurch were quick out of the blocks with some hard running and great teamwork. The goal posts and crossbar seemed to attract the ball when Christchurch was on the attack, a sign that all of the shooting practice in training was working. It was a really superb first half home performance.

Their opposition were well coached and made for a really competitive and close second half. Our defence continued to put in a great performance and gave the team a platform to attack. A flurry of late corners and attacking runs meant the boys ran out the match in much the same impressive manner as they started it.

The match was played in an excellent spirit and the boys are to be applauded for their continued contribution to making us a competitive and hardworking, but also honourable team

CHRISTCHURCH v BOURNEMOUTH POPPIES

Eagerness, excitement and expectation were the order of the day for Christchurch as they played their first home game of the season against Bournemouth Poppies. With some familiar faces on the pitch and touchlines, it was time to renew last season’s well placed rivalry.

On a hot day, it was an end to end game with both sets of players working really hard in both defence and attack. Christchurch played some really neat and penetrating football in the first half, simple yet effective passing, letting the ball do the work.

It really was a game of two halves, Christchurch dominating the first, with Poppies establishing a foothold and proving much harder to breakdown in the second.

Both teams were relentless in the second half, strong in defence and quick on the counter attack. A hard fought game, again played in front of an appreciative and enthusiastic set of supporters and parents.
