Christchurch FC v Ringwood Town
Under a lovely autumnal sky, the U9 season continued with a match against the Ringwood Town Warriors. With coaches resplendent in their Triple AAA sponsored rain-jackets, the boys warmed up with enthusiasm.
The starting line-up was off to a very bright start with a shot on goal forthcoming with the first surge forward. Despite some robust defending from Ringwood Town, Christchurch’s exciting attacking play was ever present and allowed the team to take control of the game. Our speedy wingers were a constant threat delivering some great passes for the forwards to race on to.
Half-time allowed Ringwood Town to take on advice from their coach and they started the second half pressing Christchurch hard across the pitch when we had possession, making it much harder to get out of defence. To counter this, a re-jig of Christchurch’s line up was made, pushing the usual defensive team to play a role further up the field, allowing Christchurch to regain momentum with possession and see the game out.

Poole Town Youth v Christchurch FC
So the second away fixture of the season was an early morning kick-off against Poole Town Youth. Starting again at a high tempo, it took the boys a little while to get into their passing game, not helped by a very “bobbly” pitch and the weather being unusually hot for the end of September (even the Subs were complaining about it being hot and they were just watching!)
Using both the wings as outlets from defence, Christchurch started to take control of the game and were soon creating some really well-crafted chances. Our corner count grew as we maintained possession yet with Poole Town’s quick forward line the team could not relax and the defensive unit had to be watchful and ready at all times.
The theme continued in the second half with some great play on both wings from Josh and Thomas, crossing to our ever ready strikers in Cameron and Louie. With confidence rising and cross-field passing becoming a feature, Christchurch was able to maintain control until the end of the game.
A really great performance and again, superb support from the parents.
