BAFFINS MILTON ROVERS 3
Sydenhams Football League (Wessex)
Tuesday 26 February 2019
Following last Saturday’s impressive performance against Horndean, this proved to be a reality check with a vengeance against a very quick and committed Baffins Milton Rovers team.
Baffins signalled their intentions in the second minute of the game, when a corner on the left was crossed to the right from where the ball found its way to an unmarked player in the centre who volleyed the ball into the top corner from 20 yards out, giving Max Frampton no chance and Baffins the lead. A few minutes later, a through ball from Christchurch midfield found debutant Alex Whitehouse, but his shot was smothered by the Baffins goalkeeper. After half an hour, Baffins went further ahead when a centre from the left found a colleague who turned and shot, which was going wide, until it was deflected by Keiran Douglas into goal past a helpless Max Frampton. This was indicative of Christchurch’s fate on the night, giving a half-time score of 0-2.
After early attacks by Christchurch in the second half, Harvey Wright’s shot was just over the bar, but then Baffins increased their lead when a shot from outside the area was punched clear by Max Frampton, only for the rebound to find a Baffins forward unmarked, who was able to head the ball back past Max into the net. A number of fouls and yellow cards followed during the half until things went from bad to worse for Christchurch when Harvey Wright picked up a second yellow card to reduce the home team to 10 men for the last quarter of an hour. Christchurch were pressing for what would only be a consolation goal, but from a corner on the right taken by Dan Haynes, Keiran Douglas saw his shot saved by the Baffins goalkeeper for another corner, which was then cleared safely upfield to leave the final score at 0-3.
