Alresford Town v Christchurch FC – 13th April 2019

Sydenhams Football League (Wessex)

Saturday 13 April 2019

This was the perfect end to our first season back in the Premier League, with a well-deserved victory at Alresford.

The first 15 minutes saw attacks from both sides adequately dealt with by the respective defences, until a free kick to the home side from 30 yards out was not cleared effectively by the Christchurch defence and enabled Alresford to take the lead.  After further exchanges at each end, Christchurch had a succession of corners, with Max Wilcock finally shooting just over the bar.  This was followed by a free kick from 20 yards, which Ash Pope shot just wide of the far post.  Then a free kick to Alresford from just inside the Christchurch half was safely gathered by Max Frampton.  Towards the end of the half a corner on the right taken by Ash Pope went back and forth between him and Kieran Douglas, but the latter’s shot was safely cleared by the home defence, to leave the score at 1-0 at the break.

Alresford started strongly in the second half, but Max Frampton in the Christchurch goal adequately dealt with any threat posed, then a corner on the Christchurch left taken by Ash Pope was punched clear by the home goalkeeper, with the rebound finding Max Wilcock whose wayward shot went out for a throw-in!  Both sides then made substitutions to freshen things up until midway through the half a throw in on the left found NICK SWANN who volleyed into goal to equalize.  A couple of minutes later, a corner on the right taken by Ash Pope was cleared initially, but the ball rebounded back to him and then on to KIERAN DOUGLAS whose shot found its way into goal to give Christchurch the lead.  Alresford responded well and a free kick on the left was cleared but the rebound was well saved by Max Frampton at full stretch.  Various free kicks followed, but the defences remained resolute to give Christchurch the 2-1 win.

Christchurch – Frampton, Cherrett, Wright, Walker, Douglas, Haynes D (Satterley B 60), Swann, Gale, Pope (Butler 87), Wilcock, Whitehouse (Kirkham 60).  Unused subs – Cooper, Robinson.
